Before getting into the final shape, Pride and Prejudice had another title. As you might have guessed, it was First Impressions. It’s a story about two different but equally passionate people. Who are they? Elisabeth Bennet is the daughter of the country gentleman. Mr. Darcy inherits the wealth of his noble father. How can they link to each other?
There are many fascinating moments in the plot. It tells about their meetings, deceptions, mutual love, even betrayals. This way, the story makes the readers involved in the sequence of events.
The novel begins when Elizabeth’s father decides to marry his daughters. At a ball, the girl encounters Darcy. Their relations do not start right in that scene. Elisabeth’s bias against the young man’s arrogance fends her off. Instead, she pays attention to a military officer George Wickham. A romantic air arises between them all at once. Wickham makes Elizabeth dislike his opponent, Darcy. The officer tells her about Darcy’s renunciation of inheritance.
Darcy manages to capture his lover’s heart all the same. He reveals the truth in the letter to Elizabeth in return. Wickham turns out to be a deceiver. He has wasted all his rich inheritance – what a piece of news! His marriage with Elizabeth could improve his financial condition. It’s the reason why he wants to marry her. After that, Elizabeth falls in love with Darcy. The novel ends with their marriage.
