What is anthropomorphism? How could the phenomenon of anthropomorphism lead someone to posit autonomous ethical dignity and rights in nonhuman animals that really shouldn’t be considered worth protecting any more than trees?

Attribution refers to a process where human characteristics, demeanor, and actions are attributed to animals or things that are not human. Anthropomorphism can be used to connect and understand animals behave from the perspective of a human person by developing empathy for them. However, an individual can inaccurately interpret biological processes in nature by considering animals to act like humans.

Additionally, some improper behaviors towards animals can surface from humans who may try to adopt a wild animal as a pet or even misinterpretation of actions and behaviors of cruel wild animals such as snakes. In some cases, anthropomorphism may make humans expect an animal such as a dog to behave like a human, which may lead to stress and unwarranted disappointments. Creating a wrong impression about animals can cause ethical concerns as some people may even start showing more care for animals than they do to their children.
