The location of F & P in New Zealand affects the company’s strategy in a number of ways. To begin with, the formation of the company in New Zealand in the period following the Great Depression made it live through the tough rules put in place by the government of New Zealand in a bid to protect its industries. At the end of the day, the limitation of importation of important goods made the company come up with a strategy that involved the assembly of refrigerators by use of parts that were obtained from companies located outside New Zealand. F & P did this with a license. At the end of the day, the strategy evolved and the tough times made way for innovation that made the company begin its own production. This ultimately became the strength of the F&P.
