What are the challenges of teaching citizenship in the social studies classroom?

Teaching citizenship is one of the primary objectives of social studies. Hence, teachers must be able to overcome challenges such as political bias. The other challenge is the perception of the subject, which can be viewed by parents and students as less important than, for example, math or chemistry. Therefore, teachers must be able to communicate the subject as an interesting and engaging one.
