In ONC, adopting Health Information Technology is important to meet the goals of the HITECH Act of 2009. The success of a business is identified by the work done to ensure that technical standards support the technology used in the organization. In the same way, people use technology, such as mobile technology, email, internet, and telephone daily, the exchange of interoperable health information is not a “one-size-fits-all” solution. As a result, various service providers will differ in terms of their stipulations and standards that support desires created in the ONC’s Office of Science and Technology.

Various fundamental building blocks are being worked on by ONC to standardize their operations. These comprise “structures as specified by HL7, transport using email protocols, security, through the use of NIST-adopted encryption standards, services, with open and accessible APIs.” The current efforts to promote IT standards of interoperability show how to improve people’s health using IT in a cost-effective manner.
