There was a form of religion depicted as Santeria, describing how African religious traditions were sustained in Cuba. Slaves started arriving in Cuba as early as the 16th century and carried African spiritual practices and beliefs. Essentially, these religious beliefs and practices brought by these people fused with Cuban spirits to develop Santeria, a syncretized religion. Santeria religion was defined and recognized as an epitome of the universe, passed from a new generation to another generation. The Santeria religion contributed to the retention of cultures and survival among the Cuban community in the US.
