Saint Ignatius was a noble Spanish hermit and priest from 1537 to 1556; founder of the Jesuits during the times of the Christian reformation led by the late Martin Luther King, and he strictly observed unquestionable devotion to the hierarchy, power, and authority of the Roman Catholic Church after being wounded in 1521, following a cruel battle at Pamplona, he was later inspired by Ludolph to quit his past military life to follow the examples of former spiritual leaders like Francis of Assisi.
During the hard times of his injury, Saint Ignatius saw the vision of the Virgin Mary while at Montserrat of our lady shrine in March 1522, and following his recovery, he traveled to Manresa where he started fasting for seven hours a day in a cave and at the same time formulated basic foundations for spiritual exercises, although his mission was foiled by Franciscans who send him back to Europe after he had arrived at the holy land where he had converted non- Christians to Christians.
During the religious conversion period, Ignatius read religious books about the life of the Lord Jesus and that of the saints and decided to lead a life of self-denial, poverty, suffering, peace, humility, as well as emulating the past deeds of other monastic’s who served in the Spanish territory before him hence sending his friends to Europe as missionaries to establish Jesuits schools, colleges, and seminaries and later became the father general of the monarchical organization (Jesuits) which vowed strict allegiance to the Roman Catholic Church and the Papacy following the release of Ignatius after he was brought before the Catholic inquisition.
