Folklore is an essential source of knowledge about the experience of Africans during slavery. At the same time, everyday life was not described in tales but transmitted through symbols, and values in artistic form, which could bring pleasure. While stories about John conveyed shared experience, they and elements of humor in them served as entertainment. Moreover, in stories governing the relationship between the main character and the master was constantly violated, where one or the other prevailed. Such an unusual course of events revealed the post-war vision of the slave system.
