Being a student in a mathematics classroom where our instructor expects us to participate in group discussions and offer satisfactorily contribution requires certain excellent qualities. These qualities include being cooperative in terms of the material contribution to ensure we answer all our questions correctly. In addition, I believe the time factor is very crucial in any constructive discussion; therefore a good team member should arrive at the discussion room ten or five minutes before the expected so as to familiarize themselves with the requirements as well as make relevant delegations to avoid wastage of the discussion time. Hence, a good team member ought to too be time conscious and observant to avoid delaying other members of the group.
A good team member needs to be committed to the entire group so that they encourage fellow members to be resourceful and induce a feeling of responsibility and challenge due to one’s contribution. Thereby, ensuring that all other members will come being prepared for a serious discussion so that they will not feel left out or capturing the basics of the main topic that may seem obvious to the other groups. In short, a good group member needs to familiarize themselves with the question as well as its requirements before the day of the discussion is on. This makes one more of a resource rather than a stranger and assists one to understand clearly the challenging areas of the topic.
More so, a good team member needs to communicate well with other members to ensure that explain the areas one is familiar with, to avoid misunderstanding that may lead to unnecessary arguments leading to more time wastage and failure to tackle the questions completely and correctly. However, group members need not have the same or similar qualities as the purpose of group work is to learn from each other and learn to express or communicate with others effectively.
