The essence of the Buridan’s donkey paradox is that we do not have the ability to make a choice unless we are influenced upon. In this paradox, the hungry donkey is standing between two identical haystacks and cannot choose which one to eat. Spinoza concurs with this paradox stating that there is a superior power represented by God that controls and determines our actions.
