Stewardship is focused on stakeholders and the application of management techniques to achieve their goals. A servant leader would aim to maintain his or her focus on the needs of followers. Thus, the personal development and growth of staff members would be the primary concern of a servant executive. The two are similar in their focus on people; however, they differ due to their primary objectives. I have acted as a steward leader in a recent group assignment I had to accomplish with fellow students. My primary purpose was to ensure that the team members received a good grade for the task. An example of how I benefited from a servant leader is my previous part-time job. The manager was very dedicated to ensuring that his employees are satisfied with how the environment functions. Thus, my coworkers and I knew that we could address any issue of concern and that the problem would be resolved. In addition, he was aware that most of his employees are college students or undergraduates; therefore, he talked about the importance of education and his experiences of learning essential things. He suggested resources (books, journals, and websites) that helped me improve my knowledge of business and economics, which was beneficial for my studies. Therefore, my personal experience suggests that both leadership approaches should be applied when appropriate. Caring for employees and ensuring that the goal is achieved are essential for the proper functioning of any group.
