Describe a situation where the loss on a sale of business or investment property is not currently deductible and explain why.

One of the situations where the loss on a sale of a business or investment property is not deductible is a wash sale. This is a kind of transaction when an investor sells losing security, such as stocks, bonds, and options, at a loss in order to purchase it again. For example, an investor has 100 shares of X company and sells these shares on March 1 for a 500$ loss. On March 6, the investor purchases 200 new shares of X company and sells them for 1,000$ gain. According to the wash sale rule, if an individual purchases the same or identical stock within sixty-one days (which is the wash sale period), the loss from the sale is not deductible.
