What were some of the characteristics of the colonization of the Carolinas?

In 1663, King Charles II issued a charter for the land that we know today as North and South Carolina to eight Lord Proprietors. Parts of modern-day Georgia (1732) were also included. These Lord Proprietors were English aristocrats that had powerful political clout with the King, and through that favored status for their loyalty to the crown, Charles II allocated this land to them. The Lord Proprietors didn’t move to the Carolina colony, opting instead to send others to set up and run the colony for them.
