Would you argue that Mao ruled the country as a “Red Emperor?”

Mao Zedong was focused on eliminating almost all the elements of the previous regime and the social order to promote the principles of Marxism and Socialism in the country. As a result, Mao and his supporters were able to start the Cultural Revolution and overcome the barriers to creating a new social order through making the Confucian framework mainly outdated for the nation. Finally, one should note that the Chinese Communist Revolution ended in the development of a completely new political order in the country.

Therefore, it is possible to agree with the opinion that Mao Zedong was inclined to rule as a “Red Emperor.” On the one hand, he realized the ideals of Marxism in his country similarly to other “red” regimes over the globe. On the other hand, the power of Mao in the country became so significant that it began to resemble the power of the Yellow Emperor and other emperors in the country. The personality of Mao as a revolutionary ruler of China became extremely influential, leading to the proclamation of his cult. Thus, “the power of the party-state increased dramatically during the Cultural Revolution. This was the result of processes which included carrying to dizzying heights a cult of Mao Zedong.” Furthermore, on his path to creating a people’s republic, Mao acted as a strong and independent leader whose power and impact on proponents allowed for creating a state based on Marxist ideas.
