Women’s health has long been considered a specialty in health care. Is it appropriate to consider the development of a specialty in men’s health? What issues influence care for individuals with transgender identities? What about genetic disorders or syndromes that affect gender, impacting ‘differences or diversity’? Explore gender and genetics and discuss a condition that can impact clinical practice, and briefly discuss it.

It is appropriate to consider the development of a specialty in men’s health. It is important to focus on the masculine quality that makes men take more risks while being less likely to seek intervention from healthcare systems.

Men are prone to physical risks such as reckless driving and substance dependence in the place of health interventions which predisposes them to chronic health risks. Understanding that men adopt traditional belief systems and health behaviors that expose them to risks shall enable practitioners to develop evidence-based interventions.

The issues that influence care for individuals with transgender identities involve the lack of access to care from practitioners that sufficiently understand their healthcare needs. There is insufficient training on transgender issues which leads to anti-transgender discrimination and cultural incompetence by providers.

The stigma associated with providing medical care for such a type of patient and bias in electronic medical record systems in registering the gender of the patient. Healthcare policies such as insurance plans also fail to address the financial disparities for transgender people, limiting their access to health interventions.

Genetic diseases pose certain difficulties in treatment since healthcare providers might lack sufficient competency. People with genetic disorders or syndromes, such as Klinefelter, experience health disparities emerging from the lack of sufficient knowledge of healthcare practitioners.

Clinicians need to know about the comorbidities that typically diminish people’s quality of life with Klinefelter syndrome. Patients with Klinefelter syndrome likely have osteoporosis, autoimmune disorders, blood clots, and proneness to type 2 diabetes. Such knowledge improves the health approaches that intervene to promote the quality of health.
