With what does Stace compare ordinary consciousness? What are the three parts in which he divides it using his analogy?

Considering James’ views on mystical consciousness, W.T. Stace admits that it is entirely different from ordinary consciousness. Stace compares ordinary consciousness with the house of three stores. This analogy enables Stace to demonstrate the fact that ordinary consciousness is sensory-intellectual. The ground floor of the house consists of physical sensations, colors, smells, sounds. The second floor consists of images and paintings that imagination paints. People often think in pictures. Images are constantly floating through their minds and can be considered as mental copies of sensations or combinations of such copies. The third floor of the house is human intellect. It consists of conceptual thoughts, abstract ideas, processes of reasoning, etc. The two lower floors are sensuous, the top floor is abstract and intellectual.
