The study of science, technology, and society is significant for me as well as for other college students in general. All these concepts are closely interrelated and influence each other. Scientific researches lead to advancements in technology, which, in its turn, stimulates the development of society. It is important to know the power of science and technology to be able to control them. It is evident that science is a product of humanity, and the task of society is to take responsibility for scientific discoveries and technological advancements.
Another reason to study science, technology, and society in their connection is the necessity to predict the consequences of human activity. There are many historical events that prove that humanity does not always use science and technology for good. For example, the production of diverse weapons and wars frequently was caused by the desire to demonstrate military power and technological advancements. Consequently, society should control the directions of development for science and technology. It is obvious that science and technology have great power, which can bring humanity to the peak of its development or destroy it. Thus, knowledge of these concepts provides an opportunity to control their progress and focus on the current needs of society.
