According to Pope Saint John 23rd and Pope Saint John Paul 2nd, studying other religions is important because, fundamentally, religion attempts to satiate a fundamental desire of the human being: the desire for meaning and truth. Religion acts as a guide and acts as a teacher to humans when alive and gives grounds for faith when people pass on. Different religions teach the importance of family, respect towards elders, and even how to raise a healthy family. Some religions may even have books on medicine that were compiled during the olden days, while some teach people the importance of having faith and confidence in whatever they do. Many religions teach how to avoid doing evil deeds and, in the same way, teach the benefits of having virtue, such as being humble, kind, having courage, and other values.
