Due to the fact that it is impossible to ascertain all of the effects of an action, Kant argues that the results of an action cannot be employed to assess its moral worth. Even if we could know all of the repercussions, Kant claims that people still could not use that information to judge the morality of the original act.
An action’s moral worth is determined by two things: first, whether or not the act is done out of duty, and second, whether or not the act complies with universal laws. An act can be judged as being morally good even if its consequences are bad, and an act can be judged as being morally bad even if its consequences are good.
