Why does Gilgamesh seek out Utnapishtim?

He wanted to find Utnapishtim, the member of the gods’ assembly, chosen by the powerful creatures themselves, “and to him alone of men they gave everlasting life.” Therefore, the mighty King of Uruk hoped to ask Utnapishtim about the living and the dead.
