The decision regarding the refusal of acquisitions by Coca Cola had many reasons behind it. The primary reason involves the pressure placed upon these governments by the local producers as well as Coca Cola’s competitors, such as Pepsi, which see it as an attempt to break the relative parity of competition by significantly expanding their market shares in over 150 countries.

Other factors that come into play involve the overly aggressive and borderline illegal tactics used by the large megacorporation to either purchase or drive the smaller local competition out of business. The countries that did not refuse the Cadbury Schweppes deal were either those where Schweppes did not have that big of a presence or countries in dire need of new workplaces, such as the majority of the African segment.
