It seems silk and spices were ideal for caravan trade due to their lightness; they also did not take a lot of places and could not deteriorate during transportation in most cases. Moreover, these two kinds of luxury goods were the most popular products of the East and were much in demand. The traders also strived to offer the buyers excellent fabrics and exotic fruit: they mainly sold the goods absent in the country of buyers.

In addition, the merchants offered glassware, rugs, and precious stones: the caravan did not transport cheap or regular products; it was a kind of “storefront” of the best things that a state possessed. Therefore, they did not sell wine or lumber that could hardly astonish the potential purchasers.
