Why and how did Khrushchev think Communists should support national liberation wars? Why did he think such wars were inevitable? And what did he think were the potential benefits and risks for the Soviet Union in supporting such wars?

The Soviet Premier believed that Communists should support national liberation wars since they were different from other wars that occurred in the world. People who participated in the national liberation wars were fighting for the implementation of their rights and the independence of social and national development (Khrushchev).

Khrushchev was confident that such wars occurred when the communist ideals were violated, making people lose their patience, arm themselves, and fight for their beliefs. However, the Soviet leader argued that the Soviet Union intended to prevent the dangers of war itself, which is why he wanted the socialist states to unify, consolidating their economic, political, and military might.

Nonetheless, the Soviet Premier was positive that national liberation wars were inevitable as he did not expect the colonialists to grant independence willingly. These wars involved colonial people fighting their oppressors, which is why they were destined to exist for as long as imperialism existed (Khrushchev).

The Soviet leader saw the only way to attain freedom and independence: through struggle and armed confrontations. Khrushchev made those statements based on the suggestion that all oppressed people wish to gain (or regain) their freedom. Although the Soviet Union was against any manifestations of war, the Premier recognized that national liberation wars are necessary to free people from imperialism.

The Soviet leader recognized both benefits and risks of supporting the wars under discussion. The main advantage was associated with strengthening communism and world peace around the globe, which was the Soviet Union’s primary intention (Khrushchev).

This country was a bastion of communism in many respects, and supporting national liberation wars could expand its influence and attract potential allies. There was also a significant risk since aiding Asian and African countries could lead to a world war, especially if the United States were involved (Khrushchev). However, the Soviet leader was confident that socialist countries would be victorious.
