Which group in our society has the highest incidence of poverty and the lowest? Can poverty be eliminated without using any income redistribution plan? Why or why not? Discuss the weaknesses and strengths of the U.S. approach to the problem of poverty.

Poverty affects each country on a different level, with some having an extremely high rate of unemployment and wages below the line to support one’s basic needs. The highest incidence of poverty is in ethnic minorities – Hispanic, Native American, and Black persons, while white married couples are among the lowest poverty rate groups.

Poverty can be eliminated with income redistribution quickly as it would move excessive wealth from a small population of rich people to many people living in poverty. Without this measure, poverty is challenging to eliminate as people with extremely high incomes accumulate wealth that does not return to the economy. In the U.S., current taxation is ineffective as it allows large corporations not to pay taxes, while people with low incomes still have to deal with income and value-added tax.
