Machiavelli believed that the actions of the “Prince”, as cruel as they might be, would be justified if they demonstrated nobility and power. Any leader may act immorally if the results are beneficial to themselves and the nation-state. Furthermore, Machiavelli emphasized the necessity of a united nation with a strong leader. The nation-state does not base its politics on religion and is strictly independent.
