What was life like for Chinese workers after immigration to the US?

Chinese workers faced hardships, especially after the gold rush ended. Employers in the industrial sector preferred them because of cheap labor. This angered the whites, and the Chinese nationals faced outright hostility. Racism was so pronounced that even in workplaces, the Chinese were referred to as a degraded society that offered cheap labor.
