What supplements may be given to aid in wound healing, and why are they used?

Supplements speed up the wound-healing process. There are several supplements that are administered to patients so as to improve the recovery process. In order to produce collagen, the body needs ascorbic acid, a type of vitamin C. The latter is also a potent antioxidant that shields cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. The vitamin has been demonstrated to aid in the healing process of wounds, according to research. The anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain, which is present in pineapple stems, is used as a supplement. It lowers post-injury and post-surgery muscle and tissue edema.

Vitamin K is also required and recommended as a supplement.
It represents a collection of fat-soluble vitamins that are found naturally in plant-sourced foods and, most especially, dark, leafy vegetables, as well as eggs and dairy. Vitamin K is essential in the modification of proteins required for bone metabolism and coagulation. Consequently, it plays an important role in the hemostasis of wound healing. It also helps in a very significant way in the blood clotting process.

Also, Vitamin D is a lipid-soluble vitamin, meaning that it can be stored in fat. There are foods that are fortified with it as well as foods that are mostly derived from skin exposure to sunshine, such as eggs, fat fish, beef liver, and shiitake mushrooms. Anti-calcitonin/parathyroid hormone effects of vitamin D contribute to calcium absorption and metabolism by inhibiting bone/cartilage remodeling and immune function, as well as neuromuscular function.
