Having been schooled at Punjab University, Mittal possesses technical skills that are important in any business. In his book, Nobrega states that it is also through his hand on experience from former ventures such as the production of crankshafts that he has been able to apply this knowledge in other business undertakings. It is also through University education that Mittal was able to learn about Government policies that later assisted him in starting his phone business regardless of the many regulations that surrounded the telecommunication sector at the time. Human skills
Mittal possesses excellent interpersonal skills and knows how to relate to others. This has given him the opportunity to exchange ideas with the best and the brightest people in the world, including leaders and top managers. This is also one of the reasons that his company has been able to partner with big firms such as Wal-Mart, AXA and Ericsson, among others. He is also goal oriented, as can be seen by the size of the ventures he undertakes. No challenge is too big for him to handle. This has been demonstrated continuously through the size of his business ventures.

In his study, Shah concluded that Mittal has the ability to relate ideas in an intellectual manner and present them in a way that can be understood by everybody.
