What role do families play in developing literacy?

Families play a huge role in assisting their children in developing the needed literacy skills. It is important to keep in mind that, at the early stages of their development, children tend to mimic the patterns shown by the adults that are around them, which is crucial for helping young kids to develop language skills, namely, speaking. In addition, adults can participate in a child’s educational process by collaborating with a teacher and creating a home environment where children can practice their new literacy skills. Moreover, the significance of emotional support during the development of literacy skills is not to be underrated. Families can support their children on their journey to mastering language and acquiring the needed literacy skills.
