Some of the most important lessons China can learn from Japan and the West are associated with total quality management and employees’ empowerment. Japanese and Western companies have learned to benefit from the distribution of power among employees and flat hierarchy that contribute to employees’ high performance, motivation, and commitment. Decentralization is one of the approaches that enabled Western and Japanese companies and economies to succeed. Therefore, the traditional Chinese focus on strict hierarchy and authority needs to be less pronounced in the sphere of economy. Chinese companies need to learn to concentrate on prevention rather than reaction when dealing with quality management. Furthermore, the development of infrastructure is one of the major priorities for the contemporary Chinese government and businesses. Finally, it is essential to invest in people’s education, as well as the establishment of high living standards, which helped Japanese and Western societies evolve at an unprecedented pace.
