The story is set in a forest. A couple that has longed for a baby lives in a house next to the Witch’s garden. Once, the husband trespasses on the enchantress’ garden to take some rampion for his wife (The Grimm Brothers, n.d.). The Witch tells him he can have the plant, but he will give her his daughter instead. The child lives in a tower without a door. The Witch uses the girl’s hair to get inside a small window.
One day, the Prince hears Rapunzel’s voice and falls in love with her. Together, the girl and the boy plan an escape, but their plan fails. The Witch finds out everything, cuts off Rapunzel’s long tresses, and takes her to a desert. Meanwhile, the Prince’s eyes get pierced by the thorns as he falls from the tower, and he becomes blind. In several years, the Prince finds Rapunzel and their two children in the desert. Her tears fall on his eyes, and he is able to see again. Since that day, they live happily ever after.
