The most ingenious business model I have ever come across is an e-commerce clothing-focused brand Revolve. The company presents an interesting take on the modern synthesis of internet and e-commerce technologies and design. The site collects the customers’ search and preference data on designs, cuts, and length of clothing pieces and provides them directly to the designer brands. In their turn, the fashion brands featured on the site develop and adapt their clothing to recommendations provided by the customers’ data to fulfill the consumer demand.
The approach was developed by two male founders who studied computer engineering and had no experience with fashion. The case of Revolve company emphasizes the influence that analytics and data science could have in business that is seemingly remote from the theme of computer technologies, such as fashion and design.
