Classful IPv4 addressing refers to an IP address allocation method in which the IP addresses are allocated to five major classes. Contrastingly, Classless IPv4 addressing was designed to replace and mitigate the classful IPv4 addressing’ limitation of rapid exhaustion of IP addresses. Classless addressing has a mechanism to avoid running out of IP addresses lacking in classful addressing.
