Molecules and particles can enter and leave the cell in different ways. It is customary to divide the variety of these options into two groups, namely active and passive transport. The main difference between them consists of the direction of substance transport. In the case of passive transport, molecules move from the area of high concentration to the area of reduced concentration, as, for example, in the case of the erythrocyte from the previous question. In contrast, active transport is realized when a substance moves to a high-concentration region from a reduced-concentration region.
