Identifying children as dual-language learners and English-language learners is crucial for their education. Dual-language learners are those for whom English is a second language. Because of this, it may be difficult for them to understand a teacher’s instructions and socialize with their peers. To better incorporate them into the classroom, I would have to acknowledge their language and seek to include instruction and activities in that language. If possible, I should also learn the language’s basics to be able to communicate general phrases and requests.
