Pectus excavatum is a condition where the breastbone sinks into the chest. It is a congenital abnormal growth of the intercoastal cartilage that connects the ribs to the sternum. The sinking of the breastplate can cause compression to the lungs and the heart which can cause serious disorders. Pectus extravasum has been seen to affect boys majorly and is not severe during birth but it worsens during the adolescence stage. It is usually identified in childhood since the breastbone is depressed. Physiotherapy is useful during the infancy stage.
