What is an acceptable definition of identity theft?

Identity theft is unlawful action aimed at using another’s personal information for malicious aims. In most cases, the criminals use the identifying information for fraud to unlawfully get particular resources such as money or goods. This type of theft is strictly forbidden in most countries. Identity theft is prosecuted by the law, and in some cases, the punishment depends on the severity of the fraud.
