What is a mandated reporter?

Mandated reporters are those who work with children on a regular basis and are thus compelled by law to report suspected incidents of child abuse. The following persons have mandated reporters: Physicians, osteopaths, medical examiners, chiropractors, nurses, or hospital personnel; Other health or mental health professionals; School teachers or other school officials or personnel; Social workers, daycare center workers, or other professional childcare, foster care, residential, or institutional workers; Law enforcement officers or judges.
