A digital native is a phenomenon of the modern world that occurred due to the influence of technology on people’s behavior and worldview. Barak (2018) claims that digital natives are young people who possess specific characteristics such as information and communication technology literacy and who grew up in a “technology-rich environment.” Moreover, they must use informational technology based on intuition. Among the features of digital natives’ characters are flexible thinking and willingness to accept changes. Therefore, digital natives differ from previous generations and require a unique approach.
Considering the challenges that leadership faces in motivating digital natives, there are not as many of them as it may seem. More particularly, the study by Stockham and Lind (2018) has revealed that digital natives would accept extrinsic growth values-based motivation. Kirchmayer and Fratričová (2020) conducted research that showed that the main direction of motivation for digital natives should be regarding their comfort at work and their relationships with colleagues. Therefore, the motivation of digital natives would be challenged by the necessity to implement measures that would involve both digital natives and digital immigrants inside the same collective.
