What is a CIO, and why has the CIO grown in importance?

CIO or chief information officer is an individual that is in charge of a company’s strategy on Information Technology and computer systems that play an integral role in achieving goals set by the company. The importance of the CIO’s role has grown with the emergence of new technologies. They facilitate the connection and cooperation of companies and individuals within a sphere of business.
