One of the most famous quotes from the Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant implies that understanding is possible only through concepts or ideas. In order to comprehend a thing, one must conceptualize (or judge) the information about it that he or she perceives. I tend to believe that many of my perceptions are conceptualized, and the majority are conceptualized not actively but passively and subconsciously. The prior experiences allow individuals’ minds to make quick decisions about virtually anything they perceive. My idea of conceptualized perception may, however, contradict Kant’s view since by stating that “thoughts without content are empty, intuitions without concepts are blind,” he mainly aimed to emphasize that active conceptualization is an essential prerequisite of rationality.
