The airport Security Coordinator (ASC) serves as the airport operator’s direct contact for security-related activities and communications with TSA. Among their responsibilities, one can mention constantly ensuring the effectiveness of the security-related functions and eliminating any possible troubles in these programs. They also monitor the employment and criminal history of those applying for unescorted access to restricted areas.
As the U.S. Government Accountability Office states, 1.8 million U.S. airport workers have such access and could potentially pose a threat. From my perspective, the most important duties refer to reviewing all the security-related programs in terms of their proper functioning, including the CFRs, unique airport security programs, and Applicable Security Directives. These actions directly influence the Homeland Security of the USA, and even minor in compliance can lead to severe problems and weaknesses in the system.
