What Consequences Has Migration for Natives?

Argue against the statement, “Given that the consequences of migration for natives’ wages and employment differ based on the estimation approach, empirical strategy, and context, it is unfair to conclude that migration has small or negligible consequences for natives.”

In your answer, consider the following information. In a 2016 Journal of Economic Perspectives article, economists Christian Dustmann, Uta Schönberg, and Jan Stuhler argued that the national skill-cell approach and the spatial (i.e., local labor market) approach produce different and non-comparable estimates related to the consequences of immigration on natives’ wages. The authors add that the approaches ask and answer different research questions, make different assumptions, and estimate different parameters. Therefore, it is unsurprising that the results from the two approaches differ markedly.
