The hallmark characteristics of a persuasive speech are called ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is considered the most important and involves establishing credibility with the audience. This can be achieved by mentioning previous relevant field experience, maintaining a formal tone, and increasing relatability to gain trust. Logos presents a set of logical, straightforward arguments to illustrate why one’s conclusion is rationally the best option. Pathos is the power to evoke certain emotions and inspire empathy. An emotional response can be triggered through metaphors, jokes, or personal anecdotes.
