Biomes are the areas on the earth with similar climatic conditions. They can be also referred to as ecosystems.

Biomes are directly influenced by latitude and elevation. Depending on their latitude, biomes can be hotter or colder, and wetter or dryer. For example, the Equatorial forests are territories with a warm and wet climate which is caused by their geographical location. The elevation usually makes biomes colder. The higher the biome is located the colder it may be. For example, the temperature in the mountain meadows in the Alps is a few degrees lower than in the areas located some meters lower.
