The Book of Deuteronomy’s main theme was to guide parents to teach the laws repeatedly to their children. Its subjects include showing faithfulness to their God and to the leaders of Israel, obedience, and blessings as promised by Yahweh.
All these were expressed through the covenant. Obeying is not an imposed duty, but it is a sign of respect for their relationship. Foundational truths that follow for loving Him are well put forward in the opening chapters.
