Web services are the implementation of absolutely clear interfaces for data exchange between various applications, which are written not only in different languages but also distributed on different network nodes. If considered from the perspective of network protocols, it can be seen that this is, in the classic case, another add-on on top of the HTTP protocol. The Internet has several layers, and at least two conceptual types of applications can be distinguished – computing nodes that implement non-trivial functions and applied web resources. At the same time, the latter are often interested in the services of the former. Since the Internet itself is heterogeneous, different applications on different network nodes operate on different hardware and software platforms and use different technologies and languages. To connect all this and enable one application to exchange data with others, web services exist.
