There was a combination of factors that influenced the teachers’ likelihood of continuing the experiment. The experimenter’s appearance and demeanor are among the most influential ones. He certainly possessed attributes that demonstrated a high level of expertise; in addition, he instructed the participants in a credible and professional manner, which made them see him as a knowledgeable and impartial scientist. His words and statements, such as “I am responsible for anything that happens here,” also made him seem trustworthy to many teachers who continued to shock the learners.
