Watch “Obedience” with Stanley Milgram, produced by Alexander Street (1962). How did the teachers in the film indicate their resistance to continuing to shock the learner, apart from refusing to go on? Give specific examples.

Apart from refusing to continue the experiment, several teachers indicated their resistance by expressing concerns about the learner’s well-being. For example, some speakers kept insisting that someone first has to go into the learner’s room to make sure the person receiving the shock is fine. Some participants demonstrated different and seemingly strange reactions, such as nervous laughter. Others started pleading, trying to convince the learner to continue answering the questions and asking if “they were all right in there.”
