One of the major causes of the American Revolution was the British government’s tax reforms put on the colonists, which deprived their natural rights. As far as Britain, after the Seven Years’ War, had a lot of debts. The government decided to raise money through taxes establishing unwavering authority over the colonized territories. The first controversial act was the Sugar Act of 1764, which extended the customs fees, thereby encouraging colonialists to buy Britain products. Another problem was the Stamp Duty Act of 1765, which was initially supposed to raise money to protect the colonies.
However, the British government imposed excessive taxes on the colonies, prejudicing their natural rights and liberties. As a result, colonialists raised riots to protest against the unjust tax acts. Therefore, the British attempts to use colonies in order to raise money to pay after-war debts humiliated the colonies’ rights and caused the American revolution.
